Fall Festivals, Outings, And All of Your Apple Season Needs

The transition from Summer to Fall is a special time in New England, but Maine especially. Along with the fiery display from our foliage comes some of our favorite seasonal activities. The Kittery area is the perfect hub to get out and take advantage of apple picking, fall festivals, apple cider and cider donut cravings, you name it. Enjoy it all this season at some of our favorite local spots in and around Kittery.

Applecrest Farm is actually just a 15-20 minute drive from Kittery in Hampton Falls, NH, but well worth the trip. You will find your perfect apple cider (hot or cold), apple pies, and it’s also pumpkin patch season. The Farm Market has delicious fresh pastries made with the many fruits they produce. Spend a few hours here with friends or the whole family, but if you join them for one of their Harvest Festivals this month you’ll want to spend the whole day. Don’t miss the corn maze!

At just a 15 minute drive from the Water Street Inn, the 38th Annual Harvestfest in York, ME is such a fun way to ring in the season. If a warm apple pie fritters don’t convince you, enjoy over 250 crafters and vendors, various craft  food options, entertainment, music, and a special KidsFest so everyone’s happy. The best part is that it’s all at the beautiful Short Sands Beach, a great opportunity to make a day of it and take some pictures at the Nubble Lighthouse, but make sure you at least drive the scenic coastline along the way. Join the fun October 14th from 9am-4pm.

We love fall in Maine because there is still so much to enjoy outside, but sometimes we equally enjoy fully embracing the idea of putting on a comfortable sweatshirt, hunkering down and sipping a hot tea with a good book or game. Our friends over at White Heron Tea & Coffee have a wide array of organic tea and coffee perfect to ease you into that fall mood. We recommend trying the fall inspired apple cranberry ginger loose leaf tea for a tart, fall-spice treat. Stop by their cafe just a 7 minute drive from the Inn to their Eliot, ME or Portsmouth, NH location, you can bet there will be classic jams spinning on the record player, perfect local gifts, and a lively yet relaxed atmosphere to ponder your dall daydreams.

To really immerse yourself anywhere you need to find the best local spots and find out what makes them special. From remarkable cakes, pastries and desserts to mouth watering breads baked fresh every day in their kitchen, Beach Pea Baking Company is not only the best around, but will hold their own against the best you’ve had. A must stop for a snack, lunch, or stock up for a picnic. The Applesauce Oaties are the perfect apple cookie that you didn’t know you needed this Fall.

For your foodie pitstop, the apple cider french crullers from Lil’s in the Kittery Foreside actually melt in your mouth. Lightly eggy, airy, hot and moist fresh out of the oven, perfection. You can also get your fix at the always tasty Anneke Jan’s, their fall highlight is a spiced apple fritter dessert with apple compote, apple cider reduction, cinnamon brown sugar. More than enough to share, but delicious enough that we bet you won’t!
